Project Goal

User Research

We selected several user research methods to identify user needs and gather design requirements. We conducted an online survey first to gather data from as many as possible small business owners. The semi-structured interviews helped us further understand their pain points. The hierarchical task analysis was used as a method to collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data we gathered from the previous research.

Insights & Users

Based on the previous research, we analyzed the quantitative and qualitative data and generated key findings according to them. Our research indicates that craft business owners are struggling between sustainability and cost, and they are willing to build a sustainable brand identity.

Storyboarding & Feature Design

We brainstormed several ideas based on key insights we defined in the previous phase. And we decided to combine some of the ideas and generated key features to meet the design requirements we identified from user research.

User Flow

We defined two main user flows according to the key features of the website. Users will be able to use this website to source sustainable materials whether they have an account registered. However, they will be able to save choices and make repurchases after they log in to their accounts.

Wireframe & Evaluation

I developed a set of wireframes showcasing the user flows of the website. We also conducted one round of think-aloud testing to measure the usability, effectiveness and satisfaction of our design with target users.

Style Guide

For the branding of our design, we decided to use natural earth tones for our color palette. We designed this design system to make our users aware of accessible information, materials, and practices related to sustainability. The first and foremost feeling we want to achieve is friendly, sustainable, and welcoming.
